Garlan joined ElderCARE to combine her clinical expertise with her passion for helping families navigate the healthcare system. She works closely with families to improve communication, coordinate care, and ensure smooth transitions between healthcare providers, all while offering support and education.
As a medical Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), Garlan has extensive experience in a variety of acute care settings, including Level 1 trauma centers and both private and teaching hospitals. Her work focuses on diagnosing and managing swallowing disorders and addressing a wide range of speech, voice, and language issues in medically complex patients. Garlan’s approach incorporates evidence-based practices to deliver the highest standard of care.
Garlan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Tennessee State University. She completed her internship at the VA Medical Center and is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) with a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
Originally from middle Tennessee, Garlan enjoys hiking, kayaking, and traveling to national parks with her husband and three boys.
